Surface Preparation
Surface preparation is considered to be the most important step of any flooring application.
Improper surface preparation could turn what seems to be simple process into a lengthy
difficult repair. The following conditions will dictate the type of surface preparation: Concrete
surface shall be dry, free from dust, dirt, oil, grease, paint or any other contaminants which may
inhibit the adhesion to the surface. Weak or contaminated surfaces must be mechanically
cleaned by shot blasting or scarifying, never use chemicals to clean the substrate without prior
written consent from Colorama Coatings technical support department. Surface bond strength
of the substrate should be a minimum 200 psi. Substrate should be primed with our epoxy
primer. Substrate temperature should be a minimum 10°C during the application and the
ambient temperature maintained between 15‐30°C. Relative humidity must not exceed 85%.
Adequate ventilation should be provided to ensure uniform drying.
Surface preparation should be done in accordance with ASTM Standards below:
– ASTM‐D‐4258 Standard Practice for Surface Cleaning Concrete for Coating.
-• ASTM‐D‐4259 Standard Practice for Abrading Concrete.
•- ASTM‐D‐4261 Standard Practice for Surface Cleaning Concrete Unit Masonry for Coating.
Application Procedure
1. Surface preparation as in the previous section.
2. Application of first coat of Colorama Stain concrete direct to concrete surface using spraying machine, then push the stain to penetrate concrete using special brush in circular motion.
3. Let the stain dry for at least 5 hours.
4. Apply one or two coats of the epoxy Clear coat using a roller to get a uniform and smooth final surface
(re‐coate interval between the 2 coats not less than 16 hours).
P.S. For all our epoxy products, the recoating interval is a minimum of 16 hours
and a maximum of 48 hours. We can provide a wide Varity of marble shapes depending on the
technique of application of the stain and number of colors used. We can insert your logo to be a
part of the floor
